Bradley Manning. Perhaps nothing sums up the errors of ommission and commision of the Obama Administration as the case of this whistle-blower and anti-'just following orders' visionary. The US has a lot to answer for, as does Obama, and relying up lying is not going to make things better.
Civil liberties seems to be missing from the one character we really expected it from. Is it a case of manipulating the small area of wiggle room available, when 35% of the nation are willing to call him a traitor just for waking up in the morning, 45% if you include the center-left (of which I am a member) who feel he has always had more wiggle room and should have been as assertive as the pompous traitors who preceeded him in office. The question becomes, does the hatred of the right increase as much as hatred from the left decreases as he makes judgements that condemn us into 3rd world status when it comes to human rights quality.
As studies of Richard Nixon point out – some saying that he was the last liberal president – there is usually always a "but". Not in the case of the Bush maladministration, of course. But, Obama can take heart with a series of 'buts' which will get him re-elected. But, he moved Don't Ask, Don't Tell to its next stage, and no amount of dithering on the rights of marriage for gays will limit that group from his ledger.
